After twenty plus years of enviromental issues, litigation and false starts, Monterey Park’s Market Place, located at the southerly borders of Monterey Park is finally a reality. The Market Place is a development of M&M Realty Partners out of New Jersey.
Costco Wholesale, one of the two major anchor tenants, will be the first to open for business. Doors to the warehouse store will open to the public on Thursday, May 31st at 8:00 am. “We are so happy Costco is now part of the Monterey Park business and Chamber member family!” said Dora Leung, President of the Greater Monterey Park Chamber of Commerce. Adding that she looks forward to shopping for all the fresh produce at the store.
Costco Wholesale first open its doors in 1975 when Sol Price, a pioneer in warehouse club retailing, opened its first “Price Club” in San Diego, CA. Jeffrey H. Brothman and James D. Sinegal opened the first “Costco” in Seattle in 1983. The two companies merged in 1993 as “Price/Cotsco” and became simply Costco in 1999.
One major addition to the Monterey Park Costco is a gasoline station with 24 hour capability. With the opening of the new Costco, the old store in Montebello will close. The address is 2000 Market Place Drive, Monterey Park, CA 91755. Hours of operations are weekdays 10-8:30, Saturdays 9:30-6 & Sunday 10-6.
